Project: "MeCoSG4" - Development of metal complexes coupled to innovative delivering strategies to selective targeting of G-quadruplexes

Recent years have seen an increased interest in highly polymorphic non-canonical DNA structures known as G-quadruplexes (G4s), which can be considered excellent biological targets for selective anticancer drugs due to their involvement in particular cellular carcinogenic pathways.

In this context, the aim of this project is to design and synthesize metal based anticancer drugs, which selectively recognize specific G4 structures, and to develop delivery systems based on long oligonucleotides with G4 units able to release their cargo specifically to cancer cells.
